Tea tree oil is safe for children when it's used as recommended. Pediatricians who suggest using tea tree oil to treat fungal infections in children do not recommend it for children who are younger than 6 months.


The effects of using essential oils such as Australian lemon Myrtle oil on molluscum has been studied in children with an mean age of 4.6 years. No adverse effects have been reported. Children involved in the study were affected by this viral illness for at least 5 months prior to treatment with essential oils.

Studies done on children who had a 10% solution of Australian lemon Myrtle and olive oil applied to their skin once daily showed a 90% reduction in lesions after 10 days.
